Antenatal Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy

Roughly 1 in 5 women will experience mild discomfort in their pelvis during pregnancy, known as Pelvic Girdle Pain (PGP).

Symptoms can include, pain over your pubic bone at the front, or across your lower back, one or both sides. This pain can also travel into your groin and hip area. Many women notice difficulty walking, turning in bed, lying in certain positions and pain when opening their legs for instance getting out of a car. If your pain is no longer manageable and affecting your day to day life Physiotherapy can help.

 Gentle manual therapy can help joint position, while advice and exercises can be provided to help increase the stability around the joint.

All women will have some degree of abdominal wall separation in their 3rd trimester due to the nature of preganancy itself. However some women may find that this separation does not improve and are therefore left with a Diastasis Recti

Physiotherapy can help by providing a safe exercise programme. This will ensure you can engage your core and pelvic floor muscles to bring the separation together.
