The Mummy MOT?
The Mummy MOT is a post-natal assessment recommended for all women following delivery – whether 6 weeks after delivery or many years.
The Mummy MOT is a physiotherapy assessment which included check of your posture, abdominal area and pelvic floor strength. Following your assessment you will be given a home exercise programme and have the option of joining a baby friendly post natal pilates class.
The assessment begins with taking a history and highlighting any ongoing issues. A screening of your posture and core control is then complete at the same time as your stomach muscles are checked for a separation. The final part of the assessment is based on your pelvic floor muscles. This can be complete either through an external or internal examination. If you would like a chaperone present please advise us before your appointment.Once the assessment is complete a functional exercise programme will be provided. If a tummy muscle separation is identified your rehabilitation will be grounded in the work of Diane Lee.
Its important to say that “it’s not about the gap”. Treatment is not based on the size of the gap but how well tension can be created in your connective tissue. Time is spent explaining the treatment approach and discussing how you can support your recovery with nutrition and breathing.
